Resident Evil: Retribution Expands Its Scope

Film stars and social networking, how we love you. For those of you who use Twitter and follow, Milla Jovovich would have probably seen her latest Tweets, if you haven’t, head on down below to witness where an action scene will be filmed and more on Resident Evil: Retribution.

With The Hollywood Reporter mentioning that filming will take place in Toronto, Milla Jovovich has added another location to the filming. “YES! WE ARE DOING A HUGE ACTION SEQUENCE IN RED SQUARE!!!!” Also Jovovich has confirmed something we already knew about when the filming will begin. “we start principal photography on RE:RETRIBUTION sometime towards the end of sept.”

Also, Jovovich mentioned this; “Paul doesn’t like to make the films too long, so ppl leave wanting more, but there is sum EPIC alice vs. jill fights!” [SOURCE]

...Well, depending on you who trust, everyone and no one that isn't Milla or Paul

YESTERDAY, the announcement that RE5 had been entitled 'Retribution' and that Milla, Paul and Sienna Guillory were all likely to return (Guillory particularly, as she announced she was training for the role several months ago):

IGN.COM:
Alice will be back to her zombie-slayin' ways in Resident Evil 5 and she's reportedly bringing some old colleagues with her. Bloody Disgusting claims that Milla Jovovich is set to reprise her role as Alice and that Sienna Guillory will also be back as Jill Valentine. (The last installment, Resident Evil: Afterlife, ended with a standoff between their respective characters.) The site adds that series staple Paul W.S. Anderson has not only scripted the fifth film but will also direct it. [SOURCE]

However, today, Bloody Disgusting has changed it's tune stating:

Bloody Disgusting.com
"Exclusive breaking news as Bloody Disgusting has learned that Milla Jovovich will be returning once again as 'Alice' in Resident Evil: Retribution. We have also exclusively landed the news that Paul W.S. Anderson will direct from his own screenplay. Anderson directed both the first film in the franchise and Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D, which arrived in theaters last September.

Sienna Guillory had posted on Twitter that she will be returning as "Jill Valentine," although we're being told that she's being recast. Who should replace her? They are also casting "Barry Burton", who was a member of S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics And Rescue Service), and "Leon Scott Kennedy," a U.S. Government agent, and previously an officer for the Raccoon City Police Department." [SOURCE]

To be frank, BD.com may very well be playing another "April Fools"-type joke, or the news above could be very true. So far, Sienna Guillory (who posted three hours ago on her twitter) has made no official confirmation that she is no longer a participant in RE5's production in the least. The announcement that Barry "Boring" Burton and Leon S. Kennedy being "confirmed" new characters makes me wonder if the Redfields will disappear or remain with the case. Regardless their "source" is dubious to say the least, unless its actually Paul W.S. Anderson or Sony pictures announcing the news themselves (though why they choose to remain unnamed is baffling).

A TRIP OVER TO Millaj.com's Resident Evil 5 forum proved to be quite interesting. For instance, there's a forum user (lukepowers_16) who's keeping up with the RE5 "Retribution" news (both there and @ IMDB.com) that states the following information about the fifthquel has been confirmed:

#Shawn Roberts has already signed on to return as Wesker in future sequels
#Leon S. Kennedy will make an appearance (it's been confirmed by Paul W.S. Anderson during a Comic-Con interview last year but they always make some last-minute changes with the script. Leon was initially going to appear in 'Afterlife' but it forced Paul to remove Leon as he realised that there was no room for him to be included into the story.)
#Ada Wong will also make an appearance as Wesker's assistant and spy
#'Resident Evil 5' will open up with an epic battle between the survivors and Umbrella soldiers led by Jill Valentine on the Arcadia ship
#Jill's disappearance will be explored in 'Resident Evil 5' where it'll be revealed (via a flashback) that she got kidnapped by Umbrella soliders ordered by Wesker
#RE5 will be called 'Resident Evil: Evolution'
#Don Carmody has confirmed that a "Resident Evil 6" is being planned [source + source]

Milla Jovovich takes a bunch of fan mail via Twitter, yet actually responds to it. When someone jokingly asked the Resident Evil star if the next film would be subtitled "Begins," (it was the name used in an April Fool's Day joke this year) she answered seriously:

"no, its not called"begins"lol! it"began" 10 yrs ago! lol! i think its called RE: Retribution, but i have to ask paul 2 b sure."

Bloody Disguising has come outright and confirmed what most already suspected was an April Fools joke when the website posted an announcement concerning "Resident Evil 5" becoming a prequel with a video game tie-in. On an already up-side, it's amusing to see how many people are taking their prank to heart and acting as if BD.com pulled a gun on them and shot them in the leg.

Update: “Just to clarify, this was an April Fool’s Day joke. All of you who stole this story and credited Screen Gems, serves you right.” ——-Bloody Disgusting.com

The Internet Movie Database has recently added a new film to their list of Milla Jovovich’s upcoming projects. According to their source(s), Milla is “rumored” to star as Ms. Molly in director Jay Alaimo’s (Slingshot) upcoming film, Chronicle (2012). Also set to appear in the film are Ben Foster (rumored), Kate Mara, Justin Long, Ryan Philippe, Danny Masterson and Vincent D’Onofrio, while filming is expected to begin this March; additional details remain to be announced.

At this point, however, we’d advise you to take this news with a pinch of salt. Milla has herself yet to confirm or even mention the film via e.g. her verified Twitter account @MillaJovovich or her official site, and as some of you will know Milla recently tweeted she was actually planning to take time off from film this spring in order to focus on her music, while production for Chronicle is set to begin as soon as March 14.

Milla Jovovich has dismissed speculation she is planning on telling all about her life in Hollywood. It has been rumoured the Resident Evil star is set to turn her personal journals into a book.

Not true, the 34-year-old says. 'I have no idea where that [rumour] came from. I guess somebody said something about me publishing my diaries online and when I heard that I was like, 'No way',” Jovovich said, according to the Daily Express.

The actress said she is fan of Twitter, but “it's one thing to write music, to write songs, but your diary is you at the end of the day, stressed out writing whatever, and it's not for the public. At least not while I am alive.' [SOURCE]

One more clip from the Resident Evil: Afterlife official website, featuring the Alice clones and their 'needle-dive' assault on the Japanese Umbrella HQ (pretty much everything you've seen from the trailers, save one little bit).

Elle has alerted us to this interesting Russian-language report which claims Milla Jovovich is still onboard The Winter Queen, the Russian-language period drama/thriller which has been running into scheduling conflicts since 2007, culminating in director Paul Verhoeven ultimately leaving the project. 9 rota-director Fyodor Bondarchuk has since taken over helming the film, however Milla’s continued involvement in the production has despite online reports remained unconfirmed.

According to the rough Google translation of this Russian article from Spletnik.ru, however, Milla has once again agreed to do the film, with Bondarchuk as the new director. According to the article, first post-Verhoeven negotiations took place already last year, but it wasn’t until recently that Milla consented to starring in the film in its new production form. Although according to The Winter Queen’s Internet Movie Database-page filming is expected to begin this summer, it is likely that the Spletnik.ru article is closer to the truth in saying that filming is currently slated for the fall, with Milla’s summer filming schedule looking very busy with Bringing Up Bobby and The Three Musketeers.

Until Milla confirms (or denies) her involvement in the film via an official outlet, we’ll continue to treat her role in The Winter Queen as “rumored”, however we of course remain hopeful that these rumors prove to be true. It’s sounded like a thrilling project from the beginning!
