The Fourth Kind starring Milla Jovovich arrives on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download March 16th, 2010 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

Structured unlike any film before it, The Fourth Kind is a provocative thriller set in Nome, Alaska, where – mysteriously since the 1960s – a disproportionate number of the population has been reported missing every year. Despite multiple FBI investigations of the region, the truth has never been discovered.

Set in remote Alaska, psychologist Dr. Abigail Tyler (Jovovich) began videotaping sessions with traumatized patients and unwittingly discovered some of the most disturbing evidence of alien abduction ever documented. Using this never-before-seen archival footage alongside dramatizations, The Fourth Kind exposes the chilling truth behind these disappearances.

...Second place went to the Milla Jovovich horror film The Fourth Kind, which abducted $5 million from moviegoers’ wallets. The Men Who Stare at Goats, the wacky war comedy starring George Clooney, earned $4.6 million — the best debut ever for a movie with “goat” in its title. Michael Jackson’s This Is It displayed some staying power, dropping a respectable 47 percent for $4.2 million. And fifth place was a tie between two horror movies: the new Cameron Diaz release The Box and the holdover phenomenon Paranormal Activity. Early figures had both films at $2.9 million.

In limited release, the Oscar-hopeful drama Precious grossed $585,000 from 18 theaters for an exceptional per-screen average of $32,500. Friday’s figures are below, and check back here on Sunday for the complete box office report.

Latest thriller provides anxious audiences with close encounters of ‘The Fourth Kind’

Who — or what — is the cause of the many disappearances in Nome, Alaska? In his new film, “The Fourth Kind,” rookie writer-director Olatunde Osunsanmi points the finger at aliens. Although the film shows alleged archival footage re-enacted by actress Milla Jovovich (“Resident Evil”) and others, the facts still remain unclear.

Initially, this film seems like a groundbreaking exposé of a government cover-up, especially when mulling over the evidence put forward. Between 1960 and 2004, many Alaskan citizens went missing. In total, there were 24 disappearances and much of the town thought it was the work of a serial killer. Officials from the FBI investigated the various cases, deeming “excessive alcohol consumption and the [harsh] winter climate” as the probable cause. Osunsanmi apparently disagrees. His movie, “The Fourth Kind,” attempts to reveal the truth behind the supposed cover-up once and for all. With all the hype surrounding the film, it’s quite a stretch to expect viewers to believe aliens caused it all. Or is it?

4thkindTHE FOURTH KIND is an incredibly unsatisfying alien abduction movie. Unsatisfying because it has neither an alien or an abduction!

In Nome, Alaska, people under hypnosis remember being abducted by aliens who first notice they are being watched by an owl--that is not an owl. After seeing this boring flick, I would be amazed if owls want to watch it (even if they are not owls).

The title comes from categories of alien contact. The beginning of this film is strange. Actress Milla Jovovich walks out in an Alaskan forest to explain that she's going to be playing Dr. Abigail Tyler. Then for the next 10 minutes, we see purportedly real footage of the 'real' Tyler, sometimes in split screen with Milla Jovovich. While that sounds interesting, it really isn't--it's distracting and the people look nothing like who they are playing.
