Milla Jovovich Talks RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION, Where Things Pick Up in the Fifth Movie, and the Possibility of a Sixth at Comic-Con

While at Comic-Con for a presentation in Hall H, actress Milla Jovovich spoke with the press about the fifth installment in the popular Resident Evil franchise. In Resident Evil: Retribution, which resurrects Michelle Rodriguez’s character from the first film, Alice (Jovovich) fights alongside a resistance movement in the continuing battle against the Umbrella Corporation and the undead. During the interview, Jovovich talked about where things pick up with this film, the bigger nature of the story, the biggest challenge with this movie, and the possibility of a sixth and final film. She also talked about the Ice Cats book she wrote when she was seven years old, that strongly resembled ThunderCats, and her preference for action figures over Barbie dolls. Check out what she had to say after the jump.

Last month, I was in Toronto and it was snowing. While this normally wouldn't shock most people, there was absolutely no snow on the ground outside. All of the snow was fake inside SPFX Studios, where director Paul W.S. Anderson was shooting Resident Evil: Afterlife, which hits theaters nationwide September 14. It was rather odd to walk from a snowless Toronto inside this massive snow-covered soundstage, but this is the magic of Hollywood...in Canada.

For the uninitiated, Resident Evil: Retribution is essentially set up as the Fast Five of this franchise, meaning we see a lot of familiar faces return from past movies, such as Michelle Rodriguez as Rain Ocampo (Resident Evil), Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine (Resident Evil: Apocalypse), Oded Fehr as Carlos Olivera (Resident Evil: Apocalypse and Resident Evil: Extinction), and Boris Kodjoe as Luther West (Resident Evil: Afterlife). The hardcore gamer fans out there even get their first look at Barry Burton (Kevin Durand), Leon Kennedy (Johann Urb) and Ada Wong (Bingbing Li) as live-action characters. All of these characters come together to help Alice (Milla Jovovich) take down the nefarious Umbrella Corporation once and for all, in an adventure that spans the globe from New York, Moscow, Washington D.C., and Tokyo. However, as we learned early on in the day, not all of these characters are quite who they seem to be.

As I type these words, it’s December 14, 2011 and I’m flying back to Los Angeles from Toronto. While I was in the great Canadian city yesterday, I got to spend all day on the set of the 5th Resident Evil movie with a number of other reporters and learned a lot about what’s probably the second-to-last installment of the very successful franchise. For more on the visit, hit the jump.

Before going any further, spoilers are discussed (in great detail). You’ve been warned.

While it’s always great to talk to actors, if you want to know why certain decisions were made on a movie, you’ve got to talk to the producers. While an actor can tell you why they delivered a line a certain way or how they got involved in the project, they can’t tell you why certain characters were brought back and why others weren’t. In addition, they can’t talk about the budget, working with Capcom and Screen Gems, and so many other key behind the scenes decisions. So when I got to visit the set of Resident Evil: Retribution last month in Toronto, one of the key interviews was with producers Jeremy Bolt, Don Carmody, and Robert Kulzer. During our wide ranging conversation they talked about what’s different in the fifth installment, what fans can look forward to, and so much more. Hit the jump to either read or listen to what they had to say.

Before going any further, here’s the official synopsis from Retribution and the just released teaser trailer:
