You may know her from Resident Evil, and you will see her in the upcoming Stone opposite Robert De Niro, but since the late '80s she's done everything from modeling to singing. Herein, a tribute to one of the great almost-important actresses of our time.

You know her from: The Fifth Element, Resident Evil, the occasional artfully nude photo you will find when you Google her now.

She will become forever cemented in your consciousness because of: Stone (out October 8).

Edward Norton and Robert De Niro may be Stone's stars, but Jovovich is its spirit. As Lucetta, a kindergarten teacher who will do anything to help her arsonist husband (Norton) get parole, Jovovich is a mix of vulnerability and ruthlessness: She talks just as sweetly while pushing a kid on a swing as she does while pushing her hand down a parole officer's (De Niro) pants. She exemplifies the duality of every character in the film, but where others suppress their sinister side, whether out of fear, remorse, or desperation, Jovovich embraces hers. She controls it. Relishes it. And makes it feel volatile and undeniably real. And because of this performance, for the first time, basically out of nowhere, she seems like the kind of actress who could win an Oscar. Maybe not for this role, but someday. [source]

Hardcore Milla Jovovich fans can already guess where I'm going to pinpoint the greatest role in the Ukraine-born beauty's long and eclectic career, a career that's taken her into the worlds of fashion, music, and film, into tropical paradise and 15th century France and zombie-infested worlds and beyond. Really, it only takes one perfect little word to explain, delivered with just the right inflection.

Say it with me, folks. "Mul-TI-pass!"

Resident Evil's genetically-altered zombie killer Alice may be the role that gave Jovovich an entire film franchise (and introduced her to series writer, director, and now-husband Paul W.S. Anderson), but the kung fu-fighting space alien of Luc Besson's The Fifth Element (1997) is the role that earned her worldwide notice and lifetime cult status. There's a reason why, at this year's Comic-Con, a fan stepped up to the microphone to ask Jovovich to utter her famous one-word line in the middle of a panel for the fourth and biggest Resident Evil film (which opens in 3D this week with no other studio films to compete against).

As James Cameron’s billion-dollar baby Avatar rolls toward the top of the all-time box office charts, Hollywood is looking to retool movies like Star Wars, “retrofitting” them into 3-D. From a bean-counter’s perspective, it’s an obvious move to milk fan-favorite franchises with secondary theatrical runs at the higher ticket prices 3-D showings typically command.

Whether such cinematic re-engineering will result in the same sort of negative reactions as did film colorization remains to be seen. (Orson Welles reportedly did not want his black-and-white masterpiece Citizen Kane colorized, saying: “Don’t let Ted Turner deface my movie with his crayons.”) With the continuing success of Cameron’s sci-fi epic and the growing push to add 3-D capabilities to television sets, it seems like just a matter of time before we witness a 3-D renaissance. Still, some classics might be better suited to such an upgrade than others. Here are a handful of films we’d like to see in 3-D.

4. Leeloo's Barely There Bandage-Suit
The first time Milla Jovovich appears on screen in 'The Fifth Element,' she manages to elude a large number of pursuant scientists, most of whom are too busy drooling to stop her escape. Years later, Hervé Léger, the inventor of the skin-tight wrap dress, takes a page from the movie with bathing suits that look more like Ace bandages than anything made for athletic activity. We wonder how the tan lines would turn out... [From: Style.com]
