Blood Into Wine, the documentary that shares the story of Maynard James Keenan (frontman for Tool, Puscifer and A Perfect Circle) and vineyard partner Eric Glomski’s mission to bring notoriety and credibility to Northern Arizona’s burgeoning wine industry, has added two additional New York City screenings: May 28 at City Winery NYC and May 29 at Uniondocs in Williamsburg (Brooklyn).

The previously announced date at City Winery NYC is May 27 and is accompanied by a Q&ampA featuring guests from the film. The May 28 screening will feature an assortment of wines from Keenan's vineyards. City Winery is the brainchild of Michael Dorf, founder of the downtown music mecca the Knitting Factory, and comprises a music club and operational winery in the heart of Soho, NY.

A flawed documentary about trying to turn Arizona in to the next Napa Valley.

The documentary "Blood Into Wine," directed by Ryan Page and Christopher Pomerenke, follows Maynard James Keenan and Eric Glomski as they attempt to start a stable of wineries in northern Arizona. Winemaking, you say? In Arizona? That is exactly the response the film is designed to address, as it includes background on the history of the region and winemaking (as well as some handsome nature photography) while making the pitch for the area to possibly be the next Napa.

Keenan's other job is as a rock star, a creative force behind the art-metal of Tool and A Perfect Circle as well as the parody cabaret of Puscifer. The frisson between his well-crafted personal mystique and the way the film presents him as a dedicated new winemaker learning his craft is intriguing. (Scenes of fans at a wine bottle signing event put his two sides in sharp relief.)

Arizona based filmmakers Ryan Page and Christopher Pomerenke hosted the world premiere of Blood Into Wine, their new documentary about the lead singer of Tool and Puscifer turned winemaker Maynard James Keenan and his partner Eric Glomski, at the W Hotel in Scottsdale last night.

The sold-out event, billed as a “red carpet” premiere, displayed no rouge floor runners or picture taking of any kind and Keenan, the night’s main celebrity, was ushered in under a phalanx of secrecy one hotel worker likened to the security detail for President Barack Obama enjoyed when he came to Arizona last year. Ticket holders and VIP ticket holders alike were subjected to body pat downs, no cameras or wallets with chains were allowed inside the Hotel and at the will call window patrons were warned not to engage in crowd surfing and mosh pits.

Musician Maynard James Keenan is a notoriously elusive and very private guy. He's also a very hard interview. And he hates being on camera. Which begs the question, "Why would he want to make a documentary about himself?" Directors Ryan Page and Christopher Pomerenke provide that answer with their hilarious and heartfelt plunge into the Tool frontman's personal life Blood Into Wine. For Keenan, it's all about the art of fermentation. This explorative documentary traces Maynard as he leaves Los Angeles for a small ghost town in Arizona, where he plans to transform the world of wine into something new, unique, and riotously delicious.

A wine enthusiast, Keenan has long dreamed of creating a new world class wine region within the barren Verde Valley alongside his mentor Eric Glomski, a former David Bruce winemaker who currently owns the award-winning Page Springs Cellars. Page and Pomerenke's film follows these two through their 09 wine season as the duo sets out to bring some credibility and notoriety to their Caduceus-based Arizona Stronghold Vineyards. The documentary itself is a fast paced ride that is as funny as it is insightful. With guest appearances by Milla Jovovich, Patton Oswalt, Bob Odenkirk, Tim Heidecker, and Eric Wareheim providing a spring board for Keenan's vagrant disregard for the camera, this is a inimitable experience that lifts wine tasting out of the cellar and into the pantheon of cult film status.

If you have an ounce of culture in your bones, you’ll know of Maynard James Keenan, frontman for the most excellent bands Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. But did you know that he is an accomplished vineyard owner and wine maker?

A new documentary, Blood Into Wine, follows Maynard and his partner Eric Glomski into their world of rock and roll and wine and cheese. We see wacky shit with rock types all the time, like Tommy Lee going to school, but this is the real deal; Maynard is legit.

The film also features appearances from some of Maynard’s famous friends including Bob Odenkirk, Patton Oswalt and Milla Jovovich. Head on over to the film’s official site, and watch the trailer now. The film premieres in Scottsdale, Arizona in February; no word yet on a further release, but I for one am really interested in seeing it.
