Some bad (and rather strange) news via Vasilij today. To begin with just the bad news, it looks like the Russian theatrical release of Vykrutasy (Выкрутасы) has been posponed from November 2010 to February 17 2011 — a little Googling will show you the new date is all over the Russian media. Why the film has been postponed hasn’t been specified, but this obviously means there won’t be a November premiere event in Moscow for Milla to attend, either. Can I just say… damn!
In somewhat stranger news, it appears the new trailer for the film we posted on the site yesterday has been banned from being shown in Russian theaters. Apparently, the Cyrillic first letters of the surnames of stars Konstantin Khabenskiy (Константин Хабенский), Ivan Urgant (Иван Ургант) and Milla Jovovich (Милы Йовович) form a word in Russian that in English translates to “penis”, and because this has been made a point of in the trailer, it has consequently been forbidden from theatrical display. Fans fluent in Russian can learn the whole story from this MTV Russia news report:
So, not a great day for Vykrutasy, then. Many thanks to Vasilij for passing on the news to us!

Check out this new trailer, with tons of delicious new Milla Jovovich footage, for Levan “Leo” Gabriadze’s upcoming Russian-language romcom, Vykrutasy (Выкрутасы). Even if you don’t understand the language I have to say it’s pretty funny. Big thanks to Sugar Mouse @ DemiLovato.ru for yet another significant find!
Vykrutasy is currently slated for a November 2010 theatrical release in Russia. Ivan Urgant and Konstantin Khabenskiy co-star, with Milla’s mother Galina reportedly making a cameo appearance. Milla also tweeted about a month ago via her verified Twitter account @MillaJovovich that she’s scheduled to attend the film’s premiere event in Moscow in November:
Vykrutasy‘s Russian-language official site can be found at www.vykrutasy.ru.

A kind of magic with the Fifth Element

A matter of romantic choice can turn into a laughing matter if two Romeos fall for one Juliet. Sooner or later one of them will be dismissed, and the other – kissed! "Vykrutasy” (“The Whims”) –a comedy-adventure with a Russian twist, starring Hollywood sweetheart Milla Jovovich – mixes love, luck, and humor.
The movie from debut-director Leo Gabriadze, who studied in California and in Tbilisi, promises to revive the best traditions of Soviet comedies, which are recognized for their cheerful spirit and artistic delivery. In fact, Gabriadze first made a name for himself as an actor, playing one of the lead roles in “Kin-Dza-Dza”, Georgy Danelia’s cult 1986-comedy. The screenplay was co-written by Leo’s father Rezo Gabriadze, a genius Georgian artist/puppeteer/writer/film and stage director/sculptor/designer, whose trademark play “The Battle of Stalingrad” has been performed worldwide, winning praise and admiration.
Growing up in such an unconventional artistic family, Leo Gabriadze has also inherited some of his father’s talents and passions. He admits – shyly and proudly at once – that he often looks at things through his father’s eyes. Having majored in computer graphics and animation at California University, he worked in advertising, making commercials for a number of leading Russian and foreign brands. Has it helped him feel more confident on the set of his debut?

Check out this really great Russian-language video clip from Sugar Mouse @ DemiLovato.ru, of Milla Jovovich discussing Vykrutasy in a Russian TV report on the upcoming romcom. Milla stars in the film as Nadya opposite Konstantin Khabenskiy and Ivan Urgant.
Although both the report and Milla’s interview are in Russian, Sugar Mouse tells us Milla talks in her interview about how she got involved in the film, the difficulties she experienced having to learn her lines in the course of just 10 days of filming, how she enjoyed working on the film, and even pokes fun at her accent. The clip also features a lot of fantastic behind-the-scenes glimpses from the wedding set, so it’s definitely worth a look even if you don’t understand the language. The clip via YouTube:
