The "Resident Evil" franchise has grown to enormous proportions, with games and movies helping to spread the anti-Umbrella gospel around the world. But its beginnings were humble. Those who played the original "Resident Evil" game probably recall the horrible voice acting and writing that permeated throughout the adventure in Spencer's mansion. Infamous lines like "It might be handy if you, the Master of Unlocking, take it with you" were memes before we even knew what memes were.
But many "Resident Evil" fans only know of the more recent games, or of the series of movies starring Milla Jovovich. What better reason for a brief history lesson, using the actors from the latest film, "Resident Evil: Afterlife"?
I narrowed down the long list of horrible quotes from the original "Resident Evil" and had three of the actors from the film, Milla Jovovich, Boris Kodjoe and Ali Larter, give their best interpretations. The end result can be seen above.
While voice acting is usually a hit or miss enterprise in gaming these days, it's pretty rare that anything comes remotely close to the awfulness of the first "Resident Evil." I guess that's a good thing, with professional actors like Stephen Fry and John DiMaggio classing up the joint, but I can't help but pine for simpler times, when you could just grab the nearest porn actor, stick him in a recording booth and run your Japanese script through Babelfish.
