"Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010)" to be Villa's first 3D film

BROADWAY cinema is going 3D for the first time with a screening of zombie thriller Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D next month. With a new state-of-the-art digital projector, the Villa Marina's cinema will become home to the most advanced 3D experience in the Island.
The equipment is capable of streaming full 3D live events such as concerts, live opera and major sporting events. The new projector will also become the primary projector for presentations and conferences at the Broadway Cinema. This means clients will be able to play their presentations in quality greater than domestic high definition.
David Cretney MHK, Minister for Community, Culture and Leisure said: 'The Department of Community, Culture and Leisure strives to offer the best leisure and entertainment facilities for everyone in the Isle of Man. 'With so many of the latest and best films being made for 3D viewing, I am delighted that the Broadway Cinema is now able to offer this to our customers.'
He added: '3D is just one of the many benefits of the new digital projection equipment at the Broadway Cinema. There are also great operational advantages. The new projection facilities will allow the Broadway Cinema to be more cost-effective with greatly reduced shipping costs and more efficient with reduced delivery timescales.'
Produced in May, the Barco DP 12-C digital projector is the very latest of its type on the market today. It is also the best option given that the screen surface in the Broadway Cinema is reflective, which means it does not require such a large output lamp to be installed, and together with the low energy output makes it far more environmentally friendly.
The digital film itself will be stored on a new server which has a capacity of 1.8 terabytes. This is sufficient memory to store four complete films plus adverts and trailers. Each screening has its own individual numeric sequence code and these are only valid for the set number of screenings for a particular film, greatly reducing the risk of cinema related piracy. The cinema has opted for a Dolby 3D system with 300 pairs of glasses to provide enough for two complete screenings of a film.
These will be handed out and collected after each performance and will be washed in an ordinary dishwasher to ensure hygiene each time they are used. The first film to be given the full 3D treatment will be the latest instalment of the Resident Evil smash hit zombie action/thrillers (certificate 18).
In this sequel, Alice (Milla Jovovich), continues on her journey to find survivors and lead them to safety.
Her deadly battle with the Umbrella Corporation reaches new heights, but Alice gets some unexpected help from an old friend. A new lead that promises a safe haven from the Undead takes them to Los Angeles, but when they arrive the city is overrun by thousands of Undead — and Alice and her comrades are about to step into a deadly trap.
The film premieres on Friday, September 10. Tickets, costing £8, go on sale from Monday, August 30. Children's tickets for suitably certified 3D films will be £6. Call the Ticket Hotline on 600555, visit the Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal or pay on the door at the Villa Marina.
